The sequel to cult classic film Super Troopers is now in production thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign.

Broken Lizard, the comedy troupe behind the 2001 film, launched a crowdfunding in March seeking $2 million in funding to get to work on a “barebones version” of a sequel. The campaign reached its goal in the spring. As of Monday, more than $4.5 million has been funded for the film.

Actor and Broken Lizard member Erik Stolhanske, who plays Rabbit in the film, took to Facebook on Friday and posted an image on set of the production.

“And so it begins. First day shooting Super Troopers 2,” Stolhanske wrote,

Fox Searchlight agreed to distribute the sequel in North America if the comedy troupe funded the making of it.
