Arlington Bridge closed for the weekend

WINNIPEG — If your commute takes you over the Arlington Bridge, you’ll need to find an alternate route this weekend.

The City of Winnipeg has closed the Arlington Bridge temporarily for maintenance and inspection.

It will remain closed from 6 a.m. on Oct. 24 until 6 a.m.on Oct.26.

The east sidewalk will remain open over the weekend for pedestrian access.

“The overpass is being closed for inspection and minor maintenance that cannot be undertaken with vehicular traffic on the overpass,” said the city in a press release Thursday.

Motorists are reminded to allow additional travel time. Alternate routes include McPhillips Street to the west and Salter Street to the east.

The structure, built in 1912, joins the north and west of Winnipeg, crossing over the second widest section of the CP Rail yard.

In 2013, the commuter route was closed to allow $350,000 of repairs to be done.

The bridge was closed last month for one weekend for routine maintenance.
