CALGARY – Police said Friday they have charged the 39-year-old husband of a woman that was assaulted and stabbed in the community of Saddle Ridge Tuesday morning.

He’s been charged with attempted murder and additional charges are pending.

The attack was brought to light by a young boy who ran from the home to get help.

EMS said they were called to a home on Saddlemead Green at around 8:30 a.m Tuesday to check on a woman who was injured as a result of an alleged assault.

Police directed paramedics to a room upstairs in the home where a woman in her 30s was suffering from multiple traumatic injuries, including stab wounds.

The woman was taken to hospital in serious, potentially life-threatening condition, but was conscious at the time of transport.

“She has sustained traumatic injuries consistent with a knife or other weapon being used,” said EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux.

Emergency crews said the 911 call originated from a young boy who ran to a neighbour’s home to get help. The neighbour called police on a cellphone.

Police also surrounded nearby Light of Christ School, which was placed on lockdown for a short time Tuesday. Children were being allowed in to the school Tuesday morning, but not parents. All staff were required to show identification upon entry.
