LONGUEUIL – The family of a woman murdered on a bike path in Longueuil held a candlelight vigil in commemoration of the one year anniversary of the death of 23-year-old Jenique Dalcourt.
Dalcourt’s body was found near Vieux Longueuil on Oct. 22, 2014, after she had been beaten to death.
“It’s unfair that someone took her away from us,” said her mother, Monique Dalcourt.
“It was painful enough then, and it’s still painful. Everybody in the family hopes that he’ll pay for it.”

Police arrested and questioned a man shortly afterward but had to release him after the Crown dropped the case for lack of evidence.
The Journal de Montreal is reporting that investigators have handed new evidence over to prosecutors in the hopes of re-arresting the 26-year-old man police had in custody.
A 5k was also organized during the vigil in her honour as a way to raise awareness for the need for safety measures along bike paths.
