Calgary police officer accidentally fires gun; bullet hits neighbouring home

Police are investigating one of their own, after an officer’s gun went off during an investigation in the city’s southwest, Thursday night.

It happened in the community of Discovery Ridge, around 9:30 p.m.

Police were searching a high-risk home when they were confronted by a woman wielding a knife.

Officers deployed a conducted energy weapon to subdue the woman, who was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters.

She has been charged with obstruction and assaulting a police officer.

Sometime during the search of the home, an officer accidently fired his gun.

The bullet pierced a neighboring home, but no one was injured.
