Watermain break on Heritage Drive

CALGARY – Officers were doing traffic control at the 8000 block of 7 Street Southwest Sunday afternoon because of a watermain break.

Fire crews worked on repairs, while police officers re-directed traffic.

South District chief Fred Rogi says the break was in the alleyway on 7th street and Heritage drive.

“The water was really rushing down Heritage Drive and it caused us concern at the LRT tracks down at Heritage,” Rogi said. “It also flooded three homes where we had to shutoff furnaces and hot water tanks as a precaution.”

“They (homeowners) complained of about three inches of water in the bottom of the basements.”

Traffic was shut down temporarily on Heritage Drive.

Chris Johnston who lives in the area said there was a foot or two of water coming down the road.

“Looked like the gutter was full, then five minutes later it was full on pouring down the road.”
