Woman facing second-degree murder charge in northern Saskatchewan

A woman in northern Saskatchewan was arrested on the weekend and now faces a charge of second-degree murder. Google Maps

A homicide investigation was launched Saturday in northern Saskatchewan. Stanley Mission RCMP were initially called to a complaint about an assault at a private residence around 1:30 a.m. CT.

A 39-year-old woman was found dead inside the residence at Grandmother’s Bay. The victim’s family has requested her name not be released.

As a result of an investigation, police arrested Josephine Roberts, 37, for second-degree murder. She will be held in custody until her first court appearance Monday in La Ronge.

RCMP said an autopsy will be done at Saskatoon City Hospital sometime this week.

Both the victim and the accused are from Grandmother’s Bay.

The death continues to be investigated with assistance from RCMP’s major crime unit south, forensic identification sections and the office of the chief coroner.
