Longtime incumbent Liberal MP Carolyn Bennett has solidified her hold on the Toronto-St.Paul’s riding for her seventh term.

Bennett, who was first elected in 1997, defeated NDP candidate Noah Richler and Conservative candidate Marnie MacDougall. The riding has been a Liberal stronghold since 1993.

Richler is the son of famous Canadian author Mordecai Richler, while MacDougall is the executive assistant to York Centre MP Mark Adler.

The riding is a bit smaller than it was in 2011, but still a key riding the Liberals were hoping to hold onto.

Bennett won in 2011 with 40.6 per cent of the vote, beating Conservative Maureen Harquail with 32.4 per cent, and if the current boundaries were in effect then the results would have been quite similar. The Liberal would have secured 39.9 per cent of the vote over the Conservatives identical 32.4 per cent.
