Geraldo Rivera apologizes for comments about hoodie in Trayvon Martin case

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Fox News Channel commentator Geraldo Rivera says he’s sorry for suggesting a hoodie worn by unarmed Florida teenager Trayvon Martin was as much responsible for his death as the neighbourhood watch captain who shot him.

Rivera says it was a conversation with his oldest son that convinced him he was wrong. He says it was the first time 32-year-old Gabriel Rivera said he was ashamed of something his dad had said.

Geraldo Rivera said Tuesday he still believes urban parents should warn their children it could be dangerous to wear clothing that might appear menacing to people who don’t know them.

Martin was shot in Sanford, Fla., last month by a man who said he was acting in self-defence. The shooting has sparked national debate about self-defence legislation.
