NEAR KEREMEOS — An injured hunter had to be rescued via helicopter yesterday afternoon after suffering a serious cut.

The 39-year-old man was with three other hunters in the Ashnola River Valley, south of Keremeos. Penticton & District Search and Rescue deployed its helicopter team to the mountainous area.

Randy Brown, the spokesperson for the group, commends the hunters for their preparedness.

He says rescuers were able to quickly find the hunters because they were communicating with them using a spot satellite device.

“What aided in the rescue, and for us to attend so quickly, is they were smart enough to purchase this piece of equipment and they were able to send their coordinates out to us. Not only that, they were able to text other people when there [was] no cell service or other radio coverage,” says Brown.
