Regina Leader-Post printing services being moved to Saskatoon

REGINA – The Regina Leader-Post will be printing its local newspapers in Saskatoon beginning in January. As a result of the move, 16 staff have been issued layoff notices.

According to Phyllise Gelfand, vice present of Postmedia, which owns the Leader-Post and a number of newspapers across Canada, the decision to move printing services was made because it would be too expensive to upgrade the current printing facility in Regina.

As of mid January, the paper will be printed out of the Star Phoenix’s facility and trucked daily to Regina.

Gelfand said they continue to see newspaper circulation decline across the country and have had to move or close printing facilities in a number of cities including Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Montreal.
