TORONTO – The spine-tingling and nostalgia-laden Coca-Cola anthem made to honour the 1993 World Series Champion Toronto Blue Jays is back.

“We wanted to create something fresh and new but not lose the nostalgic feel for those who remember and love the original,” said Michael Samoszewski, Vice-President of Sparkling Business Unit, Coca-Cola Ltd. in a media release.

With the blue birds returning to the playoffs for the first time in 22 years, the beverage giant has resurrected the fan favourite jingle just in time for this year’s postseason run.

The new 60-second spot aired four times during the broadcast of the Blue Jays’ last regular season game on Sunday and will hit the radio airwaves and social media in the coming days.

“Thanks to the fans, the 1993 spot became an unofficial anthem for the Toronto Blue Jays and we hope we can once again create a little magic and cheer our team through to another title!,” said Samoszewski.

Several versions of the original were made to honour the 1993 World Series Champions.

This time, the new advertisement incorporates the company’s current slogan, “Open Happiness”, but “Always Coca-Cola” is still prominent.

The Blue Jays begin their first game of the American League Divisional Series against the Texas Rangers on Thursday.
