Calgary Stampede crowns a new Indian Princess

Vanessa Stiffarm, 25, from the Blood Tribe was chosen as the Stampede Princess for 2016 Sunday.

CALGARY – Vanessa Stiffarm, 25, from the Blood Tribe will represent Treaty Seven for Stampede 2016.

Four young women from various Alberta first nations were in the running this year.

The women competed in speaking, horsemanship, dancing and presentation.

Stiffarm will attend numerous appearances during her reign locally, nationally and internationally.

Her job is to educate those she meets about Alberta’s rich first nations culture and to welcome visitors to the Indian village and the Calgary Stampede.
