A year after devastating diagnosis, Laval’s Matthew Schreindorfer free of cancer

MONTREAL -Last year Global News brought you the story of Matthew Schreindorfer who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in August 2014, just two months after getting married to his high school sweetheart.

After treatment failed in Quebec, he took part in a costly experimental treatment in New York while his wife, Katia Luciani, turned to the generosity of strangers to save the love of her life.

The expensive gene therapy was funded by an online campaign organised by Luciani that raised over $800,000.

His recovery was far from over though as he still had to undergo a bone marrow transplant.

The transplant was made possible thanks to a donation of blood-forming stem cells from an unknown donor in June.

Earlier on Sunday, Luciani took to Facebook to post results from his 100-day post-op update.

“We received Matt’s +100 day bone marrow biopsy results and apparently he’s got some squeaky clean bone marrow! The cancer is very much GONE!”

Luciani goes on to talk about how life is slowly returning to normal and how truly thankful they are for the outpouring of support they have received over the last year.
