MONTREAL – It has been a long and difficult road for Matthew Schreindorfer.

The 24-year-old Laval resident was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in August of 2014.

The cancer was aggressive and despite all possible treatments in Canada, including  three aggressive chemotherapy treatments and a clinical trial treatment, Matthew wasn’t getting better.

His doctors advised him that his only hope of survival was a clinical trial available only in the United States, at a cost of between $600 000 and $800 000 USD.

Matthew’s family quickly started a YouCaring campaign to raise the money to get him into the clinical trial.

To date, more than $739 000 has been raised to help Matthew win his fight.

Thursday, Matthew shared some good news, posting this to his “Help Save Matthew”  Facebook page.

“I have some incredible news to tell everyone… I got a haircut! So exciting! Haha! Just kidding!…I did my bone marrow biopsy on Tuesday, and my oncologist announced to us yesterday that I am in COMPLETE REMISSION. There is absolutely not one cancer cell left.”

Matthew’s recovery isn’t over yet.  He will remain in hospital in New York for another two weeks.

In his Facebook message, Matthew thanked everyone who supported his cause.

“You have ALL helped save my life with your encouragements, donations and support and I will forever be grateful!.” He wrote.

“I will never forget this moment in my life where so many strangers came together to give me a second chance at life!”

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart to my family, friends and saviors out there!”
