MONTREAL – Major repair work began on the Champlain Bridge Friday evening, leading to closure of all southbound lanes on the bridge.

The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) announced that modular trusses will be installed under the bridge to support the edge girders and ensure safe passage for commuters until the new Champlain Bridge opens.

Four modular trusses will be installed on the upstream side of the Champlain Bridge, causing the following road closures and detours:

  • Complete closure of the Champlain Bridge to South Shore–bound traffic
  • Complete closure of A-15 South from the Turcot Exchange to Highway 132
  • Entrances to the A-15 South closed from the Turcot Exchange and Bonaventure Expressway
  • Left lane closed on A-15 North
  • Entrance to the A-15 South at Gaétan-Laberge Boulevard open with a marked route to Nuns’ Island

The work is expected to last all weekend with the bridge reopening at 5:00 a.m. on Monday. Further work blitzes are scheduled for the the weekends of October 24-25, and November 7-8.
