Environment minister in Toronto for World Water Day

TORONTO – Canada’s environment minister is paying a World Water Day visit to the Toronto waterfront today.

Peter Kent wants to highlight efforts to clean up the Great Lakes.

The feds are spending $3.3 million on 46 projects, including $530,000 in and around Toronto.

Among “areas of concern” are 12 in the Toronto area.

The money will be used in part to track fish to help focus restoration efforts.

Parts of the Great Lakes face serious pollution and degradation issues.

“The Great Lakes are fundamental to the well-being of millions of Canadians,” Kent said.
