CALGARY – ScreamFest is celebrating its tenth year in Calgary with a series of brand new fun and frightening attractions.

The Halloween carnival kicks off at 7 p.m. on Friday, and features eight haunted houses, games and live entertainment.

ScreamFest’s Michael Sheppard says Calgarians have embraced the event since day one.

“We grow every year,” said Sheppard. “We were growing… then we moved [from Canada Olympic Park] and our numbers went down a bit, but now every year we’ve been at Stampede we’ve grown.”

“There’s lots to do,” he added. “But you have to like to be scared. It’s rated PG-13.”

New at ScreamFest in 2015:

  • Clown Town haunted house. “It’s all about clowns,” said Sheppard. “If you don’t like clowns, you won’t like this haunted house.”
  • Zombie Zorbs. “It’s like a human hamster ball,” said Sheppard. “We’ve got a Zorb arena… it’s done in strobe lights in the dark and fog.”
  • Archery Tag. “It’s kind of like dodge ball but with bows and arrows,” said Sheppard. “The arrows have this big Nerf marshmallow on the end… like paintball but it hurts a lot less.” “We’re the only ones in Alberta who do it,” he added. “And we’re the first in Canada.”
