KELOWNA – The mother of a West Kelowna man who went missing nine years ago wants to keep the memory of his disappearance alive. Glenda Derbyshire hopes that by talking about his case someone will come forward with new information about what happened to her son.

“I just want to keep it out there that as our family we still are looking for answers we know without a doubt that there are people out there that hold those answers for us.”

Aaron Derbyshire was 22 years old on September 30, 2006. He went to Level Nightclub in Kelowna and was never heard from again.

“He actually was last seen by his cousin that was there. There apparently was some sort of confrontation or kerfuffle or something out the front on the sidewalk and so a lot of the people from inside the nightclub went outside. When the people that Aaron was with went back in they couldn’t find him. He had disappeared,” says Derbyshire.

She believes there are people with information that have yet to come forward.

“There are people out there that know exactly what happened to him and why,” Derbyshire says. “I would really hope that one day these people, or at least one of them would have a conscious and a heart to make a call and give the information that they have.”

She believes even small pieces of information from other nightclub patrons may help.

“Whether you saw him going to the men’s room or maybe talking to somebody, just any kind of little bit of information, it might be something that is holding the key to what we need and maybe what the police need to be able to further the investigation,” says Derbyshire.

She says Aaron was working as a surveyor and had just moved into his first apartment weeks before he disappeared.

“He had been sick for a lot of years with Crohn’s disease but he was becoming really well with his heath and really enjoying life,” says Derbyshire.
