Election 2015: Regina & area forums

Before you go to the polls on October 19, get informed at one of the many forums scheduled before election day. Global News

REGINA – With just over two weeks remaining until voters cast their ballots, there are a handful of forums scheduled for Regina and Moose Jaw residents to get-to-know their candidates.

  • PSAC Regina-Lewvan forum
    Wednesday, September 30 – 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
    Italian Club, 2148 Connaught Street
    All-candidates forum for the tightly-contested Regina-Lewvan riding, hosted by the Public Service Alliance of Canada.
  • Sshhhh, We’re Talking Politics
    Thursday, October 1 – 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
    Regina Central Library
    Drop-in event to learn about how Canada’s political system works and why it’s important to cast an informed vote. Candidates invited to attend as well.
  • U of R Candidate Fair
    Friday, October 2 – 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
    Main Campus, RIC Atrium & RIC 119
    Most Regina candidates are expected along with community organizations. The event is designed in part to get more university students engaged in the election, with a meet-and-greet scheduled for 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by separate panel discussions planned the three Regina ridings: Lewvan at 12:30 p.m., Wascana at 1:30 p.m. and Qu’Appelle at 2:30 p.m. Hosted by the University of Regina and the Students’ Union.

  • The Feather & the Ballot Box
    Saturday, October 3
    Indian Metis Christian Fellowship, 3131 Dewdney Avenue
    The Greens, Liberals and NDP will be represented at a moderated forum aimed at engaging inner city Regina residents. Organizers point to a typically low voter turnout because they often feel marginalized by the system, lowering the chances of their voices being heard during the election.

  • Regina-Lewvan candidates forum
    Tuesday, October 6 – 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
    Cathedral Neighbourhood Centre, 2900 13th Ave.
    The Cathedral Area Community Association is putting on this forum for candidates in Regina-Lewvan, which could be a tight three-way race on election day.
  • YWCA women and families forum
    Wednesday, October 7 – 6:00 p.m.
    St. Paul’s Cathedral Hall, 1861 McIntyre St.
    All candidates forum to discuss issues affecting Regina women and their families. As of September 28, candidates expected are April Bourgeois (NDP, Regina-Wascana), Della Anaquod (Liberal, Regina-Qu’Appelle) Frances Simonson (Green, Regina-Wascana) and Wajciech Dolata (Libertarian, Regina-Lewvan).
  • Moose Jaw Chamber of Commerce forum
    Wednesday, October 14 – 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
    Golden Nugget Centre, Moose Jaw Exhibition
    All-candidates forum hosted by the Moose Jaw and District Chamber of Commerce, focused on the Moose Jaw-Lake Cantre-Lanigan riding.
  • When Women Couldn’t Vote lecture
    Wednesday October 14 – 10:30 a.m. to 11:20 a.m.
    U of R, Centre for Kinesiology 185
    Historian Donica Belisle explores Canadian women’s fight for the right to vote, why so many were against it, and how voting rights remained withheld from First Nations and Asian people for some time after.
  • ‘What You Need To Know’ about the election
    Thursday, October 15 – 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
    Main Campus, Language Institute 215
    Hosted by the University of Regina’s political science department, featured panelists include professors Jim Farney and Tom McIntosh as well as Leader-Post political columnist Murray Mandryk.
