Yankees fan epically fails to snag foul ball…three times

There’s bad luck, there’s really bad luck – and then there’s whatever this was.

During Tuesday night’s Yankees-Red Sox game in New York, the TV broadcast took a short break from following the game to acknowledge the world’s most unlucky fan, who just happened to be sitting in the front row along the first base line.

Three times during the game, a foul ball came this man’s way – and three times, he found a way to epically fail in making the catch.

The first one was admittedly tough, as the man twisted to try and high point a foul ball landing just behind him, only to watch it sail through his outstretched hands.

The next one was much easier, as a slow grounder hopped the rail and hit him dead centre – promptly bouncing right off his chest.

Like some sort of reverse video game, the last ball was the easiest one of the night as a ball boy, possibly taking pity on the unfortunate fellow, lobbed him a foul ball from just a couple feet away.

Already 0-2, the man found a way to keep his record intact as the ball literally bounced off his face before rolling away. Luckily, he didn’t come up empty-handed, as he and the ball boy in question were able to retrieve that last ball just seconds later.

“Third time’s the charm,” commentator Al Leiter deadpanned as the broadcasters chuckled at the man’s incredible misfortune.

The clip has rapidly gone viral since it happened Tuesday night, being picked up by sports outlets around the world.

Both the man and his amused, disbelieving female companion have not been identified, which is probably for the best. After all, there’s no reason to personally humiliate someone over a few muffed foul balls.

The only ones who deserve to know this man’s true identity are the teammates on his work softball team.

And despite the three bobbled catches, the unknown man’s performance still wasn’t the most embarrassing performance in Yankees Stadium that evening, as New York got hammered by the basement-dwelling Red Sox 10-4.
