CALGARY – A new partnership for the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) aims to make its students safer.
SAIT is teaming up with Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse (CCASA) to combat sexual violence and help support victims.
CCASA will now support the post-secondary institution by training counsellors, security staff and volunteers; the organization stresses the importance of having a policy in place with a plan of action to follow when sexual assaults are reported.

“We’re using the policy to encourage victims to come out and speak out,” said Michael Sondermann, Associate Registrar at SAIT.
“It’s encouraging people because one of the things we learned in our research was an awful lot of people don’t report this because of the lack of certainty in the future about what happens.”
CCASA also encourages students who do not feel comfortable reporting sexual assaults while on campus to come to their office, located at Suite 700, 910-7 Ave. southwest.
