TORONTO — Ten subway stations in Toronto are about to get a little more-bike friendly with the installation of new bike repair stations.
TTC chair Josh Colle spoke with media on Tuesday morning saying he is looking to create a better environment for cyclists using public transit.
“We would have bike parking or bike storage at a station, you’ll also have a spot where you can do a tune up or get your bike moving again if you have had some trouble,” Colle said.
The bike repair stations will be available at Bathurst, Davisville, Downsview, Dupont, Finch, Kipling, Keele, Kennedy, Pape and Spadina stations.
The 10 stations were selected based on the amount of existing bike parking, number of bike trips taken in the area, bike routes and trails in the neighbourhood, and the physical space at the station.
All 10 bike repair stops will be in place by the end of September and will be equipped with wrenches, Allen keys , screwdrivers, a bike pump and wheel chock.

Colle says the TTC is hoping to have the repair stations installed all at subway stops.
“We want to see how these last a winter and how durable they are, so we will probably tweak them, but i see no reason with the simplicity of the design and think how well they will be received that we would like to see them at all our stations,” Colle said.
“We need to make it easier for someone to make I that choice, so things like a bike repair stand, increasing the amount of bike parking, even accessible entrances will make people make that decision.”
