TORONTO – Canadian crooner Michael Bublé will be among those getting a star in Toronto. He’s among the latest crop of inductees into Canada’s Walk of Fame, which celebrates homegrown talent in various fields like music, sports, film and television, science, innovation, and social justice.
Last year, actors Rachel McAdams and Ryan Reynolds, along with former Supreme Court justice Louise Arbour, were among those to receive stars.
This year, sports broadcasting legends Don Cherry and Ron MacLean will be honoured, as will champion rower Silken Laumann, author Lawrence Hill, and actress Wendy Crewson. Bonanza’s Lorne Greene, who passed away in 1987, will also be given a star.
Teen singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes will receive the Allan Slaight honour, presented annually to a young Canadian making a positive impact in the music industry. It comes with a $10,000 honorarium and will be presented during the Canada’s Walk of Fame show Nov. 7 in Toronto.
A new initiative will also see an everyday outstanding Canadian honoured for his or her contributions to the community. Canadians had a chance to submit their nomination this past summer, when the Peter Soumalias Unsung Hero Honour was first announced.

“We thought that we wanted to do something on a more local basis, on a very national basis that allowed Canadians to participate and help us identify their local heroes,” organization chair Lewis Rusen told The Morning Show hosts.
The recipient of the inaugural award will receive a $5,000 honorarium and a trip to walk the Toronto red carpet.
Tickets to the event start from $29.50 and will be available Tuesday at 1 p.m. ET. The event will be hosted by actor/director Jason Priestley, best known for his days on Beverly Hills 90210.
It will air Dec. 17 on Global.
