Man arrested after car theft, assault spree in London, Ontario

LONDON, Ont. – Police say a 56-year-old man is facing numerous charges in an incident that allegedly involved a stolen car and a number of assaults.

Investigators say the incident began Saturday afternoon when a man reported that his vehicle had been stolen.

Officers say the car was driven to two other locations where a total of four people were allegedly assaulted.

Police say the car was then driven into the front doors of the Western Fair casino in London and the driver allegedly assaulted a security guard and a police officer.

All of the injuries were reported to be minor and did not require medical attention.

Christopher Smedley of London is charged with five counts of assault – including one of assaulting a police officer – two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and one count of theft of a motor vehicle.
