STE-CATHERINE-DE-LA-JACQUES-CARTIER, Que. — Tom Mulcair says a New Democrat government would inject $105 million over three years to bolster the country’s struggling forestry sector.
Speaking in the Quebec City area today, the NDP leader committed to earmark $55 million of that total to forestry manufacturing facilities.

The pledge also includes a $40-million boost for research and development and $10 million to promote Canadian wood products abroad.

Mulcair accused the Conservative government of doing too little for the country’s hobbled forestry sector.
The NDP says the commitment will create 2,500 forestry jobs in Canada and leverage $270 million in new, private-sector funding.
He is campaigning today in a riding that was held by his party in the last Parliament – in a region that is now being heavily targeted by the Tories.
