TABER, Alta. – A 38-year-old man is now facing charges as a homicide investigation continues near the town of Taber.
RCMP have charged Stacey Charles Wahpistikwan of Big Island Cree Territory, Saskatchewan with second-degree murder and indignity to a body in the death of 36-year-old Silas Lorne Kiseyinewakup.
Kiseyinewakup’s body was found on the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 22 adjacent to a working farm where he was employed.
Police were responding to a complaint of a disturbance and a missing person at a rural residence north of Taber when they made the discovery.
The cause of death has not been released. An autopsy was performed in Calgary on Thursday, Sept. 24, the results of which are pending a toxicology report.
RCMP said the suspect and victim were known to each other.
Wahpistikwan made a brief court appearance in Lethbridge Friday morning. His next appearance is scheduled for Oct. 6 at 10 a.m. in Taber.
