SAINT-JÉRÔME – Teachers from Quebec’s third-largest school board have voted overwhelmingly to go on strike, according to the president of Laurier Teachers Union, Sebastien Joly.

“This is a strong mandate.”
Joly said 89.3 per cent of teachers within the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board voted for six days of rolling strikes this year.

The union is protesting provincial cuts it deems are making teaching a virtually untenable profession.

The vote ended at 7 p.m. Tuesday. It was the second half of a vote that started in Laval on Monday.

Other English school boards in the province are expected to hold their own strike votes in the coming week.

Lester B. Pearson School Board: Sept. 23-24
English Montreal School Board: Sept. 24
Vanier College: Sept. 25
Dawson College: Sept. 28-29
