Jet fuel pipeline for YVR nears final decision

A fight that’s been going on for more than half a decade in Richmond and Delta seems to be nearing a conclusion.

The $100 million project that would see jet fuel brought on barges to Richmond, then sent underground to YVR, has already been given conditional environmental approval.

“The existing system has limited capacity, and we’re just seeing increasing number of trucks on the road every day,” says Adrian Pollard of the Vancouver Airport Fuel Facilities Corporation (VAFFC), at an information session they held today.

But the City of Richmond has argued there are many outstanding safety issues, including where the fuel tank facility will connect with the proposed terminal on Richmond’s shoreline.

VAFFC is in the process of obtaining permits for the new tanks.
