Good news for aficionados of B.C. raw oysters — they’re now allowed back on the menu.

The order being lifted by Vancouver Coastal Health is due to tests on the water temperature showing the risk of infection with Vibrio parahaemolyticus has returned to normal.

Restaurants have been under an order since Aug. 12 to cook all B.C.-harvested oysters before serving due to an outbreak of Vibrio parahaemolyticus. In B.C., 60 cases of the infection related to eating raw shellfish have been reported to date with 28 of those cases in the VCH region.

Public health officials will continue to monitor the situation and will respond if any increase in illness from B.C. raw oysters presents itself.
