Who is the man accused of killing Catherine Campbell?

HALIFAX – Christopher Garnier, the 27-year-old charged in the murder of Truro police officer Catherine Campbell was a medical first responder, Occupational Health and Safety consultant, and a “fitness guru,” according to an online employee profile.

Garnier was a team member with his father Vince Garnier’s company Safety P.A.T.H, an occupational health and safety consulting firm.

He was also recently fired from a sales job with K&D Pratt, after he didn’t show up to work on Wednesday, according to Rob Green, a branch manager at the company.

“He joined the company on Monday. He was here Monday – Tuesday and failed to come to work on Wednesday. By the end of Wednesday we had terminated his employment,” Green told Global News.

When asked about Garnier’s demeanor Green said it was “difficult to gage” because he’d only been with the company for two days.

“He seemed quiet and soft spoken, he was certainly interested and keen to start work, that’s really all I can say,” Green said.

According to the Safety P.A.T.H. website, Garnier is a certified firefighter, medical first responder and a “fitness guru.” He became a Safety P.A.T.H. team member to advance his OHSafety career.

The website also states that Garnier enrolled in the Occupational Health and Safety Certificate Program at Dalhousie University in 2013 and has “not looked back.”

“Whether he is helping employers improve their return to work programs or helping employees improve their personal health and well-being. Chris’ passion for health and safety shines and the positive results show,” the bio reads.

Goodlife Fitness confirmed that he was a previous employee of the Goodlife location in Clayton Park, but “hasn’t worked there for a number of months.”

Another previous employer of Garnier, Revolution Fitness, put out a statement on their Facebook page on Thursday afternoon confirming that Garnier was indeed a former employee, and said he left the gym to pursue his career in OHS.

“We are aware that Chris worked with many members of our gym during his employment in 2014 and that this situation will hit very close to home for these clients,” the statement reads. “The safety of our clients and our community is the first priority at Revolution Fitness and our thoughts are with the family and friends of Catherine Campbell during this time.”

Garnier has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Const. Catherine Campbell of the Truro police force. He has also been charged with indecently interfering with a dead human body, with police alleging Garnier dealt with the body in a “cavalier” way.

Garnier appeared in Halifax Provincial Court on Thursday morning wearing a blue Columbia jacket, covering his face as he entered the building.

Campbell was reported missing to police on September 14 after she didn’t report to work.

Campbell’s body was found just after midnight on September 16, under the on-ramp to the Macdonald Bridge on Barrington Street.
