Overall, 2014 was a terrific year for Kodiaks athletics. Twenty-three student athletes were honoured with Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference awards, while many of the teams also had success.

Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams claimed ACAC gold.  The women went on to claim silver at nationals – the men brought home bronze.  The men’s indoor track team also won an ACAC title.  Kodiaks athletic manager Todd Coughlin is entering his second year in the role, and has high hopes for 2015.

“We had minimal numbers on some of the rosters last year.  But, I think every coach this summer did a good job in recruiting,” said Caughlin. “We’ve got good numbers on every single squad, we’re deep in each position and the better it is in the competition within, makes the team better.”

Soccer is set to kick off the college schedule this weekend, with home games against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers.

“We’ve got a good group of players that we can work with,” said Kodiaks soccer coach Mike Racz. “On the boys side they’re excited to play, on the girls side I’ve got a lot of returning players that I’ve already worked with. So everyone kind of knows the system.”

The women kick off at 12 p.m., the men follow at 3 p.m. The cross country team opens its season on Saturday with the Running Room Grand Prix # 1 at Concordia University College in Edmonton.
