ATV rider killed in head-on crash with school bus north of Edmonton

A man in his early 40s died after the ATV quad he was driving crashed head on into a school bus near Westlock, Alta. Thursday morning.

Westlock RCMP responded to the crash at around 8 a.m. as the two vehicles approached the top of a hill on a gravel road. The crash happened about 15 km southwest of Westlock town limits. Westlock is about 90 km north of Edmonton.

RCMP said the ATV quad driver was wearing protective clothing and a helmet.

“No other vehicles were involved in the collision and there were no injuries to the bus driver or the 12 school age children on board,” said RCMP in a statement.

The children and driver on the bus were provided with support services and alternate transportation. RCMP said parents and the bus company were advised of the incident.

The crash remains under investigation; RCMP said it would not release the name of the victim.
