MONTREAL – A sixth suspect has turned himself in to police in relation to the $10 million silver heist at the Montreal port.
The 26-year-old man presented himself to authorities, accompanied by a lawyer.
Police arrested five men last Wednesday in Montreal in connection with the theft of a cargo container that was carrying silver bars.
Some – but not all – of the silver was found in raids across the island, including a home in Ville Saint-Laurent, a location in Île-Perrot, a business in Pointe-Claire, a garage, a warehouse and two cars.
The suspects are aged between 35 and 53-years-old.
“They can face charges of theft, more than $5,000 in possession of property obtained by crime and conspiracy,” said Manuel Couture with Montreal police.
On Sept. 2, a semi tractor trailer was stolen in the West Island.
Later that day, it was used to remove a grey, 20-foot long container from the port.
The container was found three days after the theft in Repentigny, but it was empty.
