MIAMI – Another tropical storm has formed in the Atlantic but poses no current threat to land.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Henri was centred Wednesday night about 405 kilometres southeast of Bermuda.
Henri has maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h and is moving north at just five km/h.
No coastal watches or warnings are in effect.
The Canadian Hurricane Centre (CHC) says at this point, it appears Henri will remain south of Atlantic Canada and may brush Newfoundland’s Avalon Peninsula on Saturday before racing east into the Atlantic.
The Halifax-based centre says it is too early to make any predictions about rainfall and wind speeds associated with the storm. However, if it does make landfall, gales along parts of the east coast of Newfoundland are possible on Saturday.
The CHC has issued marine warnings for southern Newfoundland.
