Good Samaritan rescues woman from burning home on Sask. First Nation

REGINA – A Good Samaritan risked his life Monday to save a woman in a burning house on a Saskatchewan reserve. At 10:05 p.m., RCMP received a 911 call about the fire west of North Battleford and that there may be people trapped inside.

The blaze was discovered by two members of the community, a father and daughter, who were driving past the residence on Sweetgrass First Nation and noticed flames through the windows.

They called out from the door of the residence to see if anyone was inside and heard coughing. The father entered the building, found an 18-year-old woman and pulled her to safety, according to Battlefords RCMP.

The woman was taken by ambulance to hospital in North Battleford with undetermined injuries. She was later transferred to hospital in Saskatoon.

Local volunteer firefighters ensured the fire did not spread, but the house could not be saved. No one else was inside the home at the time.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
