Man dead following head-on collision near Slave Lake

EDMONTON — One man is dead after a head-on collision south of Slave Lake early Sunday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the collision on Highway 2, about 42 kilometres south of Slave Lake, around 5:15 a.m.

Police believe a southbound pickup truck collided head on with a northbound car. The cause of the collision is still under investigation, but officers believe foggy conditions may have contributed to the crash.

The man driving the car died at the scene. The man driving the truck was taken to Slave Lake Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Traffic in the area was diverted in both directions along the Old Smith Highway Sunday morning. Highway 2 was reopened to traffic around 12:30 p.m.

Slave Lake is located about 250 kilometres north of Edmonton.
