UPDATE: 722 households on evacuation alert as wildfire threat grows in Grand Forks, Christina Lake

UPDATE: An evacuation alert has now been expanded to include 204 households in the southeast corner of Grand Forks. People in 722 households must be ready to leave their homes at a moment’s notice. 

NEAR GRAND FORKS — An evacuation alert is now in place near Grand Forks as the Stickpin fire continues to burn out of control.

The alert is in place for Electoral Area D south of the Kettle River, and the Ponderosa and Cascade areas of Electoral Area C.

“This Evacuation Alert is being issued due to an upcoming weather event (strong winds) expected in the next few days,” says Alan Stanley with the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary. “The area under Evacuation Alert could be impacted by ember showers from fires in Washington State.”

Community meetings are underway Wednesday night in both Christina Lake and Grand Forks.
