Residents take Châteauguay dog breed ban to city hall

CHÂTEAUGUAY – South Shore residents opposed to a dog breed ban took their message to Châteauguay city hall Monday night.

Dozens of pit bull owners and their supporters stood outside the city’s council meeting carrying signs.

They are trying to get a bylaw that bans pit bull like dogs in Châteauguay overturned.

Susan Mackasey started the petition, calling on the city to change the rules.

“I think it’s a prejudicial law that needs to be changed. The onus should be on responsible ownership,” Mackasey told reporters outside the council meeting.

So far, 5,000 people have signed the online petition and 2,000 more have signed a paper one.
