Manitoba heads home with 144 medals from record-breaking Western Canada Summer Games

WINNIPEG – Manitoba capped off its record-setting performance at the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games in Wood Buffalo, Alberta by capturing seven more medals during the final day of competition.

Team ‘Toba won silver in women’s soccer as well as in the men’s single sculls rowing and mixed team triathlon medley events. Manitoba also grabbed bronze medals in men’s soccer, baseball, men’s double sculls rowing and women’s double sculls rowing on Sunday.

The province’s total of 144 medals is 37 better than Manitoba’s previous best finish at a Western Canada Summer Games. Manitoba placed third in the medal count among the seven provinces and territories competing. The ten-day, multi-sport event was used by Manitoba athletes as a warm-up for the 2017 Canada Summer Games which will be held in Winnipeg from July 28 to August 13, 2017.

The next Western Canada Summer Games will take place in Saskatchewan in four years. Manitoba will host in 2023.
