WINNIPEG – Malathion fogging to control nuisance mosquitoes has been suspended because low temperatures are forecast for the next few evenings.
Mosquitoes aren’t active when temperatures are low, and fogging is most effective when the insects are flying and make direct contact with the malathion, a city news release said. Fogging is suspended when the temperature drops below 13 C; Environment Canada forecasts a low of 10 C Sunday night.
The fogging scheduled for Saturday night wasn’t completed because of high winds.
The city has only completed one full round of fogging so far this season and was only able to do one night of this second round, so far.
The mosquito city wide trap count remained high as on Sunday, sitting at 11. However, it is significantly lower than it was on Friday when the city wide average was 77.
