SASKATOON – A special weather statement for extended periods of hot weather over southern areas of Saskatchewan continued Friday. Environment Canada says the heat led to record-breaking temperatures.
It was a scorcher in Weyburn yesterday which hit 39.7°, beating its old record for the day set back in 1983 at 35.5°.
Estevan also broke its record high of 37.2° set in 2003 with a 39° on Aug. 14. In Broadview, it hit 36.4° just beating a record set back in 1906 at 36.1°.
On Thursday, Leader claimed hot spot honours with 37.5° – a new record for that day. Kindersley and Meadow Lake also broke record highs with 35.3° and 31.8°, respectively.

Environment Canada says a strong cold front is forecast to push across southern areas of the province Saturday which will bring a threat of thunderstorms followed by cooler weather for the latter half of the weekend and into next week.
In Saskatoon, temperatures are expected to be below average until Wednesday before returning to normal.
