CALGARY – BURNCO employees picketing at plants throughout southern Alberta voted in favour of a new contract on Thursday, ending a lockout that began three days prior.

Monday’s lockout affected members of Teamsters Union Local 362, which covers 96 employees at plants in Airdrie, Springbank and Okotoks.

It came as union members were in the process of renegotiating a new contract; their previous contract expired in late May.

BURNCO Chief Executive Officer Michael Powell released a statement following Thursday’s vote, saying “a fair agreement [had] been reached.”

“It ensures that we are able to keep all of our employees working, which benefits their families and customers.”

“Although neither side got everything they wanted, the amended position that was negotiated since the work stoppage will guarantee respect in the workplace and the ability for both sides to move forward,” added Bernie Haggarty with Teamsters Local 362.
