Edmonton police find IED during traffic stop

WATCH ABOVE: Edmonton police found an improvised explosive inside a car during a traffic stop. 

EDMONTON – Edmonton police found a improvised explosive device inside a vehicle Thursday morning during a traffic stop in west side of the city.

Police pulled over a Chevrolet Malibu in the area of 180 St. and Stony Plain Rd. after determining the vehicle was suspicious.

All four people inside the vehicle were arrested for drug related charges. During a search of the vehicle police discovered a homemade IED, weapons, ammunition, and a homemade firearm.

The Edmonton police Bomb Unit was called to the scene and destroyed the IED.

Heather Wemp, 20, was charged with four counts of breach of recognizance, and possession of a controlled substance.

Myles Caveny, 32 was charged with weapons for dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance.

Scott Coughlan, 33, had 13 criminal warrants executed and was charge with two counts of breach of recognizance.

Another woman was released.
