Federal Election 2015: Niagara West riding results

Summary: Conservative MP Dean Allison seeks his fifth term in this riding, which has new boundaries and a new name.

Boundaries: Previously known as Niagara West-Glanbrook, this rural riding divides Hamilton from the St. Catharines-Niagara Falls region, and includes West Lincoln, Pelham, Grimsby and Lincoln. Through redistribution, it has lost Glanbrook and the areas south of Stoney Creek, but adds Wainfleet and the beach communities to the west of Port Colborne.

Last Election: Allison defeated NDP candidate David Heatley by 35.6 per cent.

Voters within these new boundaries voted 59.5 per cent Conservative, and 19.2 per cent NDP.

History: Like many rural Ontario ridings, this area has been in the Conservatives camp since 2004, but elected Liberal MPs from 1993 to 2004. Prior to that, the majority of the area alternated between the Liberals and PCs as part of the Lincoln electoral district.

Demographics: Just seven per cent of households are below the Low Income measure, the eight lowest in Ontario.
