Federal Election 2015: Etobicoke Centre riding results

Real time live results available on Monday, October 19 2015 after polls close. Overall results will be available here.

Summary: This is a riding to watch. Conservative Ted Opitz was elected here in 2011, defeating the Liberal incumbent, Borys Wrzesnewskyj by just 26 votes. An Ontario judge nullified the result over concerns about the voting process, and the case went all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada, which finally confirmed Opitz as the winner. Opitz and Wrzesnewskyj are both running again.

Boundaries: This riding sees a small boundary adjustment for 2015. It includes most of the old riding of Etobicoke-Centre but now goes slightly south of Burnhamthorpe Road to include Bloor Street West.

Last Election: Conservative Opitz defeated Liberal Wrzesnewskyj by 26 votes. If the current boundaries had been in effect in 2011, the race would not have been as tight, with the Conservatives winning by 690 votes.

History: This riding has a history of electing members for multiple terms. PC Michael Wilson held this seat from 1979 until he left politics in 1993. Liberal Allan Rock then held the seat from 1993 until he retired in 2004. Wrzesnewskyj was first elected in 2004 and re-elected twice before his defeat in 2011.

Demographics: 20.45 per cent of residents were seniors as of the last census, the highest number in the GTA.
