History: The area has been somewhat of a bellwether riding over the years, as Chatham-Kent-Essex and its predecessor riding of Kent elected a candidate from the party forming government in 10 of the last 11 elections, with the 1988 election of Liberal MP Rex Crawford the only outlier.
