Summary: Voters here joined the orange wave in 2011, electing Jean-François Larose for the NDP, but Larose left the party to form the new Strength in Democracy party (Forces et Démocratie). He is now running in another riding, and voters will send a new MP to parliament. The Conservative Party’s original candidate, Buddy Ford, had to step down after he admitted to being charged for possession of marijuana in 2011.
Boundaries: This riding to the northeast of Montreal includes most of the Regional County Municipality of L’Assomption. It now excludes L’Épiphanie, which has been moved into the Montcalm riding.
Last Election: Jean-François Larose, running for the NDP, earned 51.9 per cent of the vote. The Bloc Québécois incumbent at the time, Nicolas Dufour, earned 31.1 per cent.
History: This was a BQ riding from its creation in 1997 until the NDP’s win in 2011.
