REGINA – The City of Regina revealed on Monday that the actual amount of screened sewage released into Wascana Creek following a July 27 storm was 15 times higher than initially reported.
Two weeks ago, city officials said that one million litres of a mixture of stormwater and screened sewage from the McCarthy Boulevard Pumping Station had been released into Wascana Creek following a major rainstorm. Now, the city has revised that number to 15-million litres.
The province tested 100 samples of water from beaches in the Qu’Appelle lake chain in the days following the release and found only one instance of elevated E coli levels – that beach was scheduled to be tested again on Monday.
The city said that the condition of Wascana Creek had returned to normal several days following the release.
