Senior RCMP officer charged with assault

A senior Turtleford, Saskatchewan RCMP officer has been charged after an investigation into the use of excessive force last year. 

Cst. Kelly Brennan, 42, of St. Walburg has been charged with assault and assault causing bodily harm. 

The charges come after a complaint was made to the Turtleford detachment on April 28, 2011 that excessive force was allegedly used during the processing of a prisoner on April 17, 2011.

An investigation was started and then forwarded to the Saskatchewan Public Prosecutions office for review, resulting in the charges. 

Brennan has been served with a summons and is scheduled to appear in a St. Walburg courtroom on March 20th. 

He remains on active duty and is also facing an internal code of conduct investigation.

Turtleford is approximately 220 km northwest of Saskatoon.
